About Ngemi Festival

A cultural home for the Kenyan diaspora in Germany

Ngemi Festival is a Kenyan diaspora cultural festival rooted in Kikuyu heritage and open to all Kenyan communities, friends of Kenya, and lovers of African culture in Germany and across Europe.

The word Ngemi comes from the Kikuyu expression of joyful ululation — a sound of celebration, welcome, identity, pride and community.

Our Story

Ngemi began as a community effort to create a space where Kenyans in Germany could celebrate culture in a meaningful and organised way. The first edition brought together music, food, artists, families, vendors, friends and community networks, showing the strong desire for a Kenyan cultural platform in the diaspora.

Building on that foundation, Ngemi Germany Edition 2 aims to grow into a stronger, more structured festival — one that celebrates Kikuyu roots, Kenyan identity, and the African presence in Germany, while also creating space for networking, business, artists, sponsors, and intergenerational connection.

Ngemi is not only a party. It is a cultural home, a public gathering, and a reminder that diaspora communities can celebrate where they come from while building where they are.
